GRACE JONES
So it's been a little while since my last post. But i'm back in the building, with aplomb (hopefully). Much like Grace Jones, though really Jones never left, she simply stepped off the stage, took a breath and watched as the modern pop diva(s) of the moment hit the autotuned high notes and pick up where Jones once so definitively left off with undoubtedly more style and originality...
Cue back on the stage, with aplomb (definitely) as 'Love You to life' confirms (reminicent of 'Private Life') that at 63, she's still got it in everyway she did 30 years ago.
Now, not meaning to sound like a 'review' of a track released over a year ago, this was just a good excuse to launch into a rant about a larger than life idol of mine.
What i've always admired about Jones is her mysterious nature both on and off camera, as well as her nonconformist attitude. Actually just 'attitude' in general. Never shy to speak/act her mind or to hide her impulsive emotional outbursts (famously exemplified by that unforgettable Interview with Russell Harty). Forgiven for thinking we were all young once, with or without the pressures of superstardom, however it was certainly not the first entertaining exchange of dialogue afront camera, and most probably not the last. Just as well really, I doubt she'd be nearly the fantastic multi-dimensional unpredicable maverick she is without that blessed air of eccentricity.
I will forever be full of admiration of her many striking stills over the years, credit also goes to those artists behind the lens such as Jean Paul Goude for the series of album covers seemingly defying laws of physics.
